The RGM Youth Talent Development Program (YTD), including the Brokopondo School Quiz competition, represents a key initiative introduced by RGM in 2012, designed to address critical educational challenges within Suriname’s interior, such as limited access to talent development opportunities and overcoming language barriers that hinder effective learning. The program has significantly impacted the community.
The primary objective of the School Quiz competition, now in its tenth year, is to assist young individuals in Brokopondo by recognizing, developing, and testing their readiness and self-confidence in preparation for their final school exams. This event not only focuses on identifying areas that require improvement in elementary school exam subjects but also evaluates the general knowledge of young citizens.
In 2024, 14 elementary schools from Brokopondo participated in the competition, culminating in a closely contested final between O.S. Brokopondo, located in Brokopondo Centrum, and Pater van de Pluym school from Brownsweg village.

O.S. Brokopondo emerged as the champions, earning USD 1500, while Pater van de Pluym school secured the semi-champion title with USD 1000.
RGM’s steadfast commitment to education as a priority area is underscored by its support for sustainable development within its Communities of Interest. Initiatives like the School Quiz not only prepare students for academic challenges but also nurture their confidence and competence, crucial for their future success and the community’s development.
