Rosebel Presents Expansion Plans to President Simons, Expected to Create Over 3,000 Jobs

PARAMARIBO, Suriname, October 24, 2026 — Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (RGM) presented its major expansion plans to President Jennifer Simons during a meeting on October 20, outlining projects expected to create more than 3,000 additional jobs, expand opportunities for Surinamese businesses, and contribute to the country’s long-term economic development.

Representatives of Staatsolie and Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines briefed the President on the expansion of mining operations, including the Saramacca Mining joint venture, and discussed the workforce requirements for the upcoming projects.

The expansion includes a new gold processing plant at Mayo, new mining and processing facilities at Saramacca, and additional power infrastructure. Upon completion, Rosebel’s combined annual ore processing capacity is expected to reach approximately 18 million tonnes, with annual gold production exceeding 12 tonnes.

The projects are expected to generate approximately 3,600 additional long-term jobs by 2031 across RGM and its contractors, including 2,911 positions for Surinamese workers, accounting for more than 80% of the projected increase. Thousands of temporary jobs will also be required during construction, creating opportunities across engineering, construction and supporting services.

The expansion will also bring significant opportunities for Surinamese businesses. RGM plans to offer major procurement packages through international competitive tenders open to qualified companies worldwide, including Surinamese suppliers and contractors.

RGM will also reserve selected projects exclusively for Surinamese companies. Six planned projects, with a combined estimated value of approximately US$30 million, have been identified for local contracting, covering accommodation facilities, warehouses, offices and site preparation. Further opportunities will be available in power infrastructure and civil construction works for the new processing plants.

During the meeting, RGM Community Relations and Development Manager Jerry Finisie highlighted the challenge of recruiting sufficient qualified workers. According to the Presidential Cabinet, President Simons expressed willingness to explore solutions through vocational institutions such as NATIN and targeted training programs. The meeting also discussed supporting the temporary employment of overseas workers during the construction and commissioning phases of the expansion projects.

RGM will prioritize local recruitment and skills development through on-the-job mentoring, professional education and vocational training, helping Surinamese workers qualify for new positions as the projects advance.

In 2025, Rosebel contributed an estimated US$630 million to Suriname’s economy through taxes, royalties, employment, local procurement and other economic value, equivalent to approximately two-thirds of the company’s annual revenue.
