About us

Gold reserves of Suriname were first discovered in the district of Brokopondo in the year 1879. Since then, approximately half of the recorded gold production of Suriname has been produced in Brokopondo. Rosebel Gold Mines, being a pivotal part of the mining history in Brokopondo started commercial production in 2004.

Acquisition of Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. by Zijin Mining Group Co. Ltd (Zijin).

2020

Pikin Saramacca Unincorporated Joint Venture (“UJV”) Agreement by and between Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. and Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V.

2013

The second amendement to the Mineral Agreement by and between IAMGOLD, Rosebel Gold Mines N.V., the Republic of Suriname, and N.V. Grassalco.

2008

Record mine throughput and gold production is achieved.

2006

IAMGOLD acquires Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. through the acquisition of Cambior.

2004

Commencement commercial production.

2003

The Mineral Agreement is amended by and between Cambior inc., the Republic of Suriname, and N.V. Grassalco.

2002

Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. is established. Cambior purchases the remaining 50% interest from Golden Star and becomes full owner of Rosebel Gold Mines N.V.

1997

A Feasibility Study and an Environmental Impact Statement submitted by Cambior and Golden Star to the Government of Suriname.

1994

Gross Rosebel Mineral Agreement by and between Golden Star Resources ltd., the Republic of Suriname, and N.V. Grassalco.

1992

Provisional Agreement, by and between Golden Star Resources ltd., the Republic of Suriname, and N.V. Grassalco with regard to the Gross Rosebel Concession.
