Marshallkreek – On Saturday, January 11, 2025, the ceremonial start of the Sustainable Water Project in Marshallkreek was held at the water station of the Surinamese Water Company (N.V. Surinaamsche Waterleiding Maatschappij – SWM). This project is financed by The Rosebel Community Fund (RCF) together with the Suriname Environmental and Mining Foundation (SEMIF). The ceremony was attended by the Ministry of Natural Resources of Suriname, H.E. David Abiamofo, the Brokopondo District Commissioner, Mr. Ludwig Mendelzoon, representatives of the Traditional Authority of Marshalkreek, the Director of SEMIF, Community Relations and Development, Mr. Jerry Finisie and the chair of the Rosebel Community Fund , Mr. Qianjie Wang, who is also the General Manager of Rosebel Gold Mines N.V.
This project is initiated by a request from the villagers of Marshallkreek, to RGM. After which the Ministry of Natural Resources was approached to partner in this project. This Project will be executed by the company AMPS Power Solutions. The purpose of this Project is to rehabilitate and upgrade the existing water distribution network of as well as to install a water treatment system to ensure quality, safe and healthy drinking water for the community. The water treatment system will be powered by the existing EBS network in Marshallkreek. RCF and the SEMIF therefore commit to fund the amounts as included in the Project Budget dated October 10, 2024, 50% share each.
The cost to implement the Project totals US$ 449,750.00 (Four hundred forty-nine thousand seven hundred and fifty 00/100 U.S. Dollars), covering the installation, transportation, labor and material costs. Equipment maintenance costs for the duration of two (2) years after commissioning are also included in the total amount informed above.
The Ministry of Natural Resources shall contribute to the Project through “in-kind” co-financing. This includes providing technical expert advice and facilitating the necessary tax exemptions and permits required for the implementation of the Project.
