RGM organizes Summer Job Program

As part of our Sustainable Community Development initiatives, RGM has been organizing a Vacation Summer Job program since 2011. This year’s participating students completed the program on Friday, September 15, and received a participation certificate during a closing ceremony. This program aims to accommodate students from district Brokopondo and the Upper Saramacca area by providing them the opportunity for a summer job at the company. Students from high school and higher education level get the chance to improve their skills and learn new ones, but also make good use of their free time during the summer vacation period.

For Yoanne Najoe, RGM Sustainability Superintendent, this is one of the projects of the company in which we give back to the surrounding communities: “With the Summer Job project our objective is for students from the communities to have an inside look of the company and experience how we work, but at the same time they can gain some work experience. Apart from that, they also earn some income during the vacations.”

For this year a total of 29 students participated in the program from the 8th Communities of Interests (COIs) (Nieuw Koffiekamp, Nieuw Lombe, Balingsoela, Brownsweg, Marshallkreek, Kwakoegron, Klaaskreek & Pikin Saamaka Communities). From August 16th -Sept 15 the students were placed at various department of RGM where they could work under supervision of dedicated staff members. Implementation of this program is a collaboration between the Community Relations and Development department and the HR department of RGM.
