RGM and Project C.U.R.E. Support Ten Healthcare Clinics in Suriname’s Interior

Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (RGM), in partnership with Project C.U.R.E., marked the ceremonial handover of medical equipment and supplies to the Medical Mission on October 13, 2026, at Krutu Oso in Nieuw Koffiekamp, Brokopondo. The initiative supports ten clinics serving communities in Suriname’s interior.

The ceremony brought together Drs. André Misiekaba, Minister of Health, Well-being and Employment; Gregory van der Kamp, District Commissioner of Brokopondo; Sergio Lagadeau, Director of the Medical Mission; and Joe Liu, RGM General Manager. Traditional authorities and representatives of RGM and the Medical Mission also attended, highlighting the collaboration to strengthen local healthcare services.

The donation builds on RGM’s partnership with Project C.U.R.E., which began in 2018. Following a needs assessment at ten clinics, three 40-foot containers of medical equipment and supplies were shipped to Suriname in June 2026 to help address identified gaps in healthcare resources.

RGM supported the initiative through project coordination and funding, while Project C.U.R.E. contributed the needs assessment and donation of medical equipment and supplies. The Medical Mission, as the recipient and healthcare provider, plays a central role in ensuring that these resources benefit the communities served by its clinics.

The supplies are intended for clinics in Balingsoela, Brownsweg, Klaaskreek, Kwakoegron, Nieuw Koffiekamp, Nieuw Lombe, Marchallkreek and Pikin-Saramacca, as well as Poesoegroenoe and Djoemoe. The initiative addresses needs identified across emergency care, routine consultations, maternity services, laboratory support and other essential areas of patient care.

During the ceremony, Joe Liu emphasized that RGM’s contribution to Suriname should also be measured by the difference it makes in people’s lives. Highlighting equipment for newborn care and emergencies, he underscored the importance of welcoming new life and saving lives. He reaffirmed RGM’s commitment to protecting life and working with the government and healthcare partners to support community well-being.

The Medical Mission, represented by Director Sergio Lagadeau, received the donation for use across the ten clinics. Lagadeau expressed appreciation for the support, explaining that suitable medical equipment strengthens daily care and helps healthcare personnel serve communities across a large and often difficult-to-access area.

Minister Misiekaba also expressed appreciation for the contribution and highlighted the need to further strengthen healthcare in Suriname’s interior, including the availability of equipment and healthcare personnel.

Healthcare remains a priority within RGM’s Community Investment Strategy. Through its collaboration with Project C.U.R.E. and the Medical Mission, RGM continues to support healthcare personnel with resources intended to improve the care available to surrounding communities.
