Brokopondo, Suriname – August 2026 – Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (RGM) continued its commitment to education and youth development through its annual School Package Donation Project. In 2026, a total of 253 school packages were distributed to pupils from 21 schools across Brokopondo and Pikin-Saramacca, supporting students as they transition to the next phase of their education.
The School Package Donation Project has been part of RGM’s community initiatives since 2009, providing school supplies to pupils who successfully complete the eighth grade. Over the years, the initiative has become a meaningful tradition, supporting families while recognizing an important milestone in the educational journey of young people.
All primary schools in Brokopondo are included in the initiative, with packages allocated based on the number of pupils who successfully completed the eighth grade. The project also includes schools in the Pikin-Saramacca area. This approach helps ensure that school packages reach eligible students throughout the targeted communities.
The official handover ceremony for the 2026 edition was held at the Daniel Yveraarschool in Klaaskreek, marking the start of the distribution. Following the central ceremony, packages were distributed to pupils at the remaining 20 participating schools.
RGM employees were directly involved in delivering and handing over the packages, providing an opportunity to interact with pupils, teachers and school staff. Employees congratulated the students on their achievements and encouraged them as they prepare for the next stage of their education.
One of the highlights was seeing the excitement of the pupils as they received their school results together with their school packages. The moment marked both the completion of an important chapter and the beginning of a new educational journey.
Beyond providing essential school supplies, the initiative reflects RGM’s commitment to maintaining meaningful relationships with its Communities of Interest. Supporting students at this important stage helps ease some of the practical challenges families may face while demonstrating the value placed on education and youth development.
The project also contributes to RGM’s broader commitment to community engagement and sustainable development, with quality and inclusive education remaining an important area of community investment. Through initiatives such as the School Package Donation Project, RGM continues to strengthen relationships with students, families, schools and community leaders while supporting educational opportunities for the next generation.
