Brokopondo, Suriname – Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (RGM) continues its commitment to developing future talent through its Internship Program, which provides students with valuable practical experience within the mining industry.
The program is designed to bridge the gap between academic studies and professional work by offering students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic mining environment. Through structured learning, workplace exposure, and mentorship, interns are able to develop both technical and professional skills while gaining insight into the mining sector.
Currently, 28 interns from the Natural Technical Institute (NATIN) are participating in the program. The interns have been assigned to various departments across the operation, including Geology, Mill Assay Lab, Mill Electrical, Mill Maintenance, Mill Metallurgy Lab, Mill Planning, Mine Exploration, Mine Maintenance, Warehouse, and Infrastructure.
The selection process focuses on several important criteria, including the student’s field of study, academic performance, motivation, willingness to learn, and the alignment between their competencies and available internship opportunities within the company.
At the start of the internship, participants receive a comprehensive Safety Induction and HR Onboarding program. During these sessions, interns are introduced to the company’s structure, safety requirements, policies, procedures, and workplace expectations, ensuring they are well prepared for their assignments.
Throughout the internship, students are exposed to a variety of learning opportunities. In addition to gaining practical work experience within their assigned departments, interns participate in internal training sessions, safety briefings, and technical instruction programs. They also have the opportunity to take part in operational site visits, including Pit Tours and Mill Tours, allowing them to better understand the various processes that support mining operations.
The success of the program is supported by experienced supervisors and departmental teams who play an active role in mentoring the interns. Supervisors provide daily guidance, assign meaningful tasks, offer constructive feedback, and help interns achieve their learning objectives. This mentorship contributes significantly to the professional growth and development of each participant.
Investing in students and young professionals remains an important priority for RGM. By providing practical learning opportunities, the company contributes to the development of future talent while helping to strengthen the workforce of tomorrow. The internship program serves as an important platform for students to apply their academic knowledge, gain industry experience, and prepare for successful careers.
Feedback received from both interns and departments has been overwhelmingly positive. Interns have expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn more about the mining industry and gain exposure to real workplace environments. Departments have also recognized the enthusiasm, motivation, and willingness to learn demonstrated by the students, as well as their valuable contributions to daily activities and departmental projects.
The Human Resources Department encourages students to take advantage of future internship opportunities at Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. Through dedication, curiosity, and a willingness to learn, students can maximize the benefits of the program while contributing meaningfully to the organization.
By investing in the next generation of professionals, RGM continues to support education, skills development, and sustainable workforce growth within Suriname.
