Forty (40) students gained practical work experience and explored career opportunities in mining through the Summer Job Program 2026 at Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (RGM). Held from August 24 to September 18, the program concluded with a closing ceremony at Pina Hut, where students received certificates in recognition of their participation.
Organized annually for approximately 11 years, the Summer Job Program gives young people opportunities to develop workplace skills, build a positive work attitude and learn about the range of professions within the mining industry.
Throughout the program, students worked across departments including Health and Safety, Infrastructure, Mill, Warehouse, Camp Services, Human Resources, Mine Exploration, Mine Operations, Mine Maintenance, MTS and Security. Community Relations and Human Resources Department coordinated the initiative.
This year, two new activities complemented the students’ work experience. On August 24, all participants attended a Pit Intrusion Awareness session, which highlighted the dangers and risks of illegally entering RGM’s mining areas. A site tour on August 25 gave students a broader understanding of the operation and the activities carried out across the mine.
The closing ceremony featured remarks from the Deputy Human Resources Manager and the General Manager Assistant, alongside reflections from students on their experiences. A highlight was the presentation of certificates by the General Manager Assistant and other directors and managers, marking the completion of the program.
The Summer Job Program forms part of RGM’s community investment efforts in its Communities of Interest in Brokopondo and the Pikin Saramacca area. By giving students direct exposure to the workplace, the program supports youth development and helps participants gain knowledge and skills that can contribute to their future career paths.
The program also aligns with RGM’s Environmental, Social and Governance commitments and the Sustainable Development Goals. It reflects Zijin’s broader focus on encouraging young people to develop a positive work attitude and an early interest in technologically advanced and environmentally responsible mining.
Through the initiative, RGM continues to create opportunities for young people while strengthening its relationship with surrounding communities.
