RGM Hosts Community Site Visit for Teachers and Nurses from Surrounding Communities

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (RGM) hosted a Community Site Visit for teachers and nurses representing communities surrounding the operation. The initiative formed part of the Company’s ongoing commitment to strengthening relationships with its Communities of Interest (COIs) while increasing awareness and understanding of mining operations, safety, and environmental management.

Approximately 35 participants from Brownsweg, Nieuw Lombe, Klaaskreek, Marchallkreek, Nieuw Jacob Kondre, Balingsoela, and Nieuw Koffiekamp participated in the visit. The Community Relations Department (CRD) organized the program with support from several RGM departments, including the Mill, Security, Internal Communication, Mine Operations, Health and Safety, Kitchen, Environmental, and Infrastructure departments.

The visit was attended by Daniel Wu, HR Director, who represented the General Manager during the program.

Building Awareness Through Engagement

The main objective of the Community Site Visit was to maintain and strengthen the ongoing relationship between RGM and the eight surrounding Communities of Interest while familiarizing a broader group of community representatives with the Company’s operations.

Teachers and nurses were specifically invited because of the important role they play within their communities. Through their daily interaction with students, parents, patients, and other community members, they serve as key channels for awareness and education, particularly regarding the dangers associated with pit intrusion.

RGM also aimed to reinforce an important safety message during the visit: discouraging young people from engaging in pit intrusion activities and encouraging communities to prioritize safety.

Site Tour and Operational Insights

The day commenced with a welcome by a member of the Community Relations Department, who explained the purpose of the visit. This was followed by remarks from HR Director Daniel Wu on behalf of management.

Participants then viewed a Health and Safety induction video to familiarize themselves with the Company’s health and safety regulations and procedures before entering operational areas.

The tour began with a visit to the Royal Hill lookout, where participants gained a firsthand view of the mining pit and received information regarding the ongoing pit intrusion challenges faced by the operation. Guests were able to better understand the scale of the mine and the associated risks within active mining areas.

The program continued with presentations explaining the mining and gold processing journey, from ore extraction to gold production at the Mill. Participants visited the Mill control room and viewed operational process videos to better understand how the facility functions.

Additional stops included the Pay Caro lookout and the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF), where participants received information about environmental management, engineering controls, and the role of the TSF within the mining process.

Throughout the day, representatives from Mine Operations, the Mill, Infrastructure, and Environmental departments provided explanations relevant to their respective areas of responsibility and demonstrated how their work contributes to the overall mining operation.

Encouraging Understanding and Transparency

One of the key highlights of the visit was the Royal Hill lookout, where participants expressed surprise at the actual size and complexity of the mine compared to how it is often portrayed in public discussions and media reports. Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions directly to RGM employees, helping to clarify misconceptions and provide greater transparency regarding mining activities.

The visit also allowed participants to gain a better understanding of RGM’s safety standards, environmental management systems, operational procedures, and gold production process.

Teachers indicated that the experience would help them educate students about the dangers of pit intrusion while also creating awareness about potential career opportunities within the mining sector.

Nurses and healthcare workers noted that the information provided valuable context when dealing with injured pit intruders within local clinics and communities.

By involving key community stakeholders such as teachers and nurses, RGM continues to demonstrate its commitment to open communication, transparency, and responsible community engagement.

“Teachers are seen in China as Human Soul Engineers and nurses are Angels in White.”

The Community Site Visit forms part of RGM’s broader efforts to work together with surrounding communities to promote safety awareness, strengthen understanding, and build positive long-term relationships.
