Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines NV continues to invest in community development and capacity building through impactful skills based initiatives. Recently, RGM supported a comprehensive hospitality training program focused on Food Safety and Housekeeping, equipping participants with practical knowledge and improved employability in the hospitality sector.
The program took place in two phases facilitated by the Suriname Hospitality and Tourism Training Centre (SHTTC): Food Safety for Kitchen Helpers from 29 September to 2 October 2025, and Housekeeping from 6 to 9 October 2025. The certificate handover ceremony took place with 40 attendees, including the 28 trainees who successfully completed the training on October 9.
Strengthening Skills and Creating Opportunities
Through this initiative, the Community Relations Department of RGM aimed to provide community members with practical, industry relevant skills. The training aligns with RGMs broader commitment to creating sustainable development opportunities for communities surrounding the mining operations. By strengthening hospitality capabilities, participants are better positioned for employment either within Rosebels operations or in the wider tourism and service sector of Suriname.
Encouragement from Leaders and Partners
During the closing ceremony, several speakers emphasized the importance of continuous learning and the value of the skills gained.
Ms Kranenburg, Director of SHTTC, applauded the participants dedication, noting the strong attendance throughout the training and at the handover ceremony. She encouraged the trainees to apply their new knowledge and continue building their competencies through future educational opportunities.
Ms Vanessa Li, Superintendent General Services Camp at RGM, highlighted the practical importance of the training, stating that the newly gained skills will not only support personal growth but also enhance employability and future career prospects.
On behalf of the trainees, Libretto Chinequa expressed appreciation to RGM for providing access to this opportunity. She thanked the SHTTC instructors for their guidance and patience, adding that the training has equipped the group with valuable tools to improve their professionalism in the hospitality field.
Commitment to Community Growth
This training initiative demonstrates RGMs ongoing commitment to supporting meaningful, skill focused programs that help strengthen local communities. Through partnerships and targeted development efforts, Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines continues to contribute to long term, sustainable progress in Suriname.
