Brokopondo – July 11, 2025 – Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (RGM), through its Community Relations Department, continues to empower its surrounding communities by providing training programs that create real employment opportunities. Through the Heavy Equipment Operators (HEO) Training Program implemented for the fourth time participants gained essential skills that enhance their prospects for stable and sustainable work within and beyond the mining sector.
The program, held from June 9 to 20, focused on equipping young individuals from RGM’s Communities of Interest (COIs) with practical and marketable skills. Recognizing the risks of small-scale mining, RGM offered this opportunity to provide safer and more sustainable career alternatives. In this most recent cycle, 15 participants, including five small-scale miners, successfully completed the training.
The certificate handover ceremony marked the program’s conclusion on July 11, 2025. During the event, Mr. Brewster, representing the Mine Operations Department, emphasized the importance of continuous learning and encouraged participants to apply their new skills to improve their livelihoods and strengthen their communities. Of the trainees, seven specialized in excavator operation and eight in truck operation.
Since the program’s inception in 2018, 75 individuals have completed the training, with approximately 62% (47 people) securing employment in the mining industry or related sectors. This achievement demonstrates RGM’s ongoing commitment to fostering skills development, supporting youth empowerment, and contributing to sustainable community growth.
