Brokopondo – October 1, 2025 – Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. (RGM), through its Community Relations Department, continues to invest in youth and community development with the official handover of a ride-on mower to the village of Nieuw Koffiekamp.
The ceremony, held at 11:00 a.m., marked a significant step toward empowering local sporting activities by ensuring the community’s soccer field can now be properly maintained.
As part of RGM’s Social Performance Program, this initiative reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to community empowerment and sustainable development in its surrounding communities.
The program featured speeches by the traditional authority of Nieuw Koffiekamp, the Community Relations Department Manager, and the CEO of Kamp Transport, the official custodian of the new equipment. The event culminated in the signing of the handover document, officially transferring ownership of the mower to the community.
Captain Eersteling emphasized the importance of soccer fields, noting that they have been instrumental in elevating football in Brokopondo. He hopes that, with proper maintenance, they will once again bring sporting success to the area.
Captain Schalwijk added that with the field’s upkeep now guaranteed, he intends to revive the youth sports organization, Sport Staalt Spieren (SSS), which was created for children aged eight to fourteen in the old village of Koffiekamp.
RGM further announced plans to train the custodian staff on proper operation and maintenance of the ride-on mower, ensuring its safe and sustainable use.
This initiative demonstrates Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines’ continued commitment to supporting youth development, sports promotion, and community well-being across Brokopondo.
