While the brand Sany is not new to Suriname, it marks a significant milestone in our mining history as we introduce six SANY 150-ton trucks to our operations for the first time. This acquisition represents a pioneering move for our company, making us the first mining company in Suriname to integrate these formidable trucks into our fleet, aimed at realizing our ambitions of scaling up our mine output this year. Arriving in parts in December 2023, the trucks were assembled through a collaborative effort involving SANY and our skilled Rosebel Technicians.
Raymond Li, a Service Technician at SANY, commends the dedication of local Mine Maintenance leaders for ensuring the smooth progress of the assembly work. Raymond notes the challenge posed by the intense heat, stating, “It’s the first time we’ve had to work in such a hot climate. Even in the African countries where we’ve worked, it’s not this hot.”

Explaining the technical aspects, the SANY technician highlights the trucks’ dual diesel engines and electric motor configuration, ensuring enhanced fuel efficiency compared to competitors like Caterpillar and Komatsu. “This will drastically reduce Rosebel’s operational costs,” assures Raymond. Moreover, the truck’s design enables performance in various climates, from frigid temperatures of -30 degrees Celsius to scorching highs of 40 degrees Celsius.

Anup Soebedar, Maintenance ACTING Superintendent, lauds the collaboration with the SANY technician despite language barriers, emphasizing the successful assembly of all six trucks. Depending on their performance, Anup hints at the potential for further acquisitions, expressing optimism for Rosebel’s future. Operator and safety induction training for the SANY trucks is slated to commence on February 24th to ensure the local team is adequately prepared for their deployment into production. Initially, SANY will oversee spare parts and maintenance, gradually transferring knowledge to local mechanics over time.
