RGM Supports NATIN Mining Students with Practical Mine Visit Experience

On Friday, March 13, 2026, at the RGM operation, Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines N.V. welcomed a group of 16 fourth-year mining students from NATIN, accompanied by one teacher, as part of its ongoing commitment to local talent development in Suriname. The visit formed part of RGM’s annual support for NATIN students undertaking their mandatory field assignment, an essential component of their graduation curriculum.

The visiting group represented NATIN Mining “Mijnbouw” students and participated in a structured program designed to connect classroom learning with real-world mining practice.

The visit was made possible through the support of several departments, including HR Talent, Health & Safety, Mine Operations, MTS, Mill Operations, and Communications. Together, these teams contributed to an informative and engaging experience for the students.

The day’s activities included a safety induction, a pit tour at Pay Caro, an MTS presentation, and a mill tour with presentation. Each session was designed to give the students a better understanding of the mining value chain and the operational processes involved.

One of the key highlights of the visit was the pit tour at Pay Caro, which gave students practical insight into how mining operations are carried out in reality. The mill tour helped deepen their understanding of the ball mill process, while the MTS presentation provided a broader view of the mining journey, from exploration and planning to execution, while also highlighting the important roles of the various sub-departments involved.

The students responded positively throughout the visit and showed strong interest, which was reflected in the questions they asked during the program. Their feedback, collected through a survey at the end of the visit, was very encouraging. The results showed that 87% found the registration process clear, 100% rated the HSE induction as very relevant or relevant, 87% found the pit tour very relevant, 75% found the MTS presentation clear, and 100% rated the overall information and presentation as very clear or clear.

Overall, the students gave the visit a rating of 4.7 out of 5, underlining the value of the experience. In particular, they appreciated the pit and mill tours, which gave them practical insight into real-life mining processes and helped them better understand the connection between theory and practice.

Through this initiative, students gained a clearer understanding of mining activities from extraction to processing, while also learning more about safety, operations, and the relevance of the industry. Programs like this are important because they contribute to the development of local talent and increase awareness of the mining sector among young professionals.

RGM remains committed to creating opportunities that support education, strengthen industry knowledge, and help prepare future professionals for careers in mining. The visit was considered a success and provided a valuable learning experience for all participants.
