Paramaribo, Suriname, December 11, 2025 – Rosebel Community Fund successfully hosted the RCF Christmas Charity Event 2025, an annual initiative dedicated to recognizing Suriname’s silent heroes. These are the individuals and institutions who work tirelessly to support vulnerable groups, including children with disabilities, orphans, boarding school students, and the elderly.
During this year’s edition, fifteen social institutions from various districts received financial support of USD 2,500 each. According to RCF Chairman Soetjipto Verkuijl, the selected organizations represent people who carry out vital social work, often under challenging circumstances. He emphasized the importance of offering encouragement and recognition to those who continue to serve their communities with dedication and perseverance.
The symbolic presentation of the donation cheques took place on Thursday evening during the official program at Ballroom Prince. The RCF Christmas Charity Event, which has been held annually since 2022, aims to acknowledge the commitment of social institutions, express appreciation for their work, and offer them a moment of recognition and respite.
Among the supported institutions are several children’s homes, foundations serving persons with physical or visual impairments, specialized education centers, boarding schools for girls, and student housing facilities. Together, these organizations play a crucial role in strengthening social care and inclusion across Suriname.
The Rosebel Community Fund, an initiative of Zijin Rosebel Gold Mines, primarily focuses on community development in and around the mining region in Brokopondo. Over the past year, the fund invested more than USD 2 million in social development projects, with emphasis on healthcare, education, and support for small scale entrepreneurship.
One of the fund’s key initiatives includes the development of a school complex with an accompanying boarding facility, aimed at contributing to long term improvements in access to quality education within the region.
The RCF Christmas Charity Event has grown into a valued annual tradition, reinforcing the belief that recognizing and supporting silent heroes contributes to stronger and more resilient communities.
